Wildfire and Climate Change Rain acknowledges the essential role of wildfire in healthy ecosystems. However: our ecosystem is not presently healthy. The obvious, necessary solution to climate change is reducing human carbon emissions. Until that happens, wildfire is both a symptom and a cause of climate change: every year, wildfires release 8 billion tons of carbon globally. We need tools to adapt to a changing climate, and the Rain System is one in a suite of tools that includes controlled burns, innovative policies, and ongoing forest management. We believe uncontrolled wildfires destroying communities, livelihoods and lives are unnecessary to meet our climate objectives.
**Remote UAS Operator / Remote Pilot in Command (RPIC)**
Protect our climate using your UAS operations experience. Every wildfire starts small. Rain contains wildfires within 10 minutes of ignition using a network of autonomous drones permanently installed throughout high risk regions. We are fire sprinklers for the forest.
Rain is backed by the expertise of wildland fire professionals and the institutional and private capital of Silicon Valley leaders. We are solving our own problem.
**Responsibilities:**
* Participate in ground and flight operations as the Pilot In Command (PIC) and remote operator
* Remotely pilot > 55 lb rotorcraft systems
* Collaborate with engineering teams on development of the PIC and Ground Control Software (GCS) interfaces
* Develop/update flight manuals, checklists and procedures
* Support test planning, hazard analysis and mitigation, and test reporting
* Evaluate planned test maneuvers and conditions for safety and feasibility
* Coordinate with the FAA, ATC, and Airport Operations
* Participate in the flight release process for software and hardware modifications
* Participate in briefings and debriefings for technical and operational exchanges of information in a group setting
**Basic Qualifications**
* 14 CFR Part 61 Private or Commercial Rotorcraft Pilot License
* 14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
* 3+ years experience as a remote Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) pilot
* Demonstrated experience with experimental flight test methods and safety culture
**Ideal Qualifications**
* 14 CFR Part 135 Air Carrier or 137 Agricultural Aircraft operational experience
* Experience operating unmanned helicopter platforms
* Experience in aerial firefighting or agricultural spraying applications
* Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
