We are searching for a Research Scientist to join our exceptional team. In this role, you will support power beaming research, optical payload development, advanced sensor development, and directed energy programs. Work entails performing research, analysis, design, and development of beam control systems and hardware testbeds. Some areas of responsibility include: Control system architecture design and implementation for spacecraft, missiles, and directed energy missions. Independently define, lead, and manage highly challenging and innovative technical activities related to power beaming and its applications. We are seeking someone who demonstrates genuine interest in these subjects and who is eager to be mentored by a respected expert in the field. You should demonstrate the ability to work effectively and thrive in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment. You will have strong communication skills and an excellent analytic skill set and enjoy working in a dynamic and multi-disciplinary environment. You would typically have a related PhD with 0-3 years of professional experience, a Masters with 3-5 years, or a Bachelors with 5-8 years, or equivalent experience/combined education. This position requires US Citizenship with the ability to acquire and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance. Basic Qualifications: Experience or familiarity with control system design and analysis of laser or directed energy systems. Experience with electro-optical sensors and/or optical systems or lasers. Fluency with MATLAB and/or Simulink. US Citizenship with the ability to acquire and maintain TS/SCI security clearance. Desired Skills: Masters or PhD in related discipline. Exposure to control of optical systems including adaptive optics, fast steering mirrors, gimbal systems, jitter/beamwalk controls, target acquisition, and tracking. Knowledge of multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) controls and advanced control methods. Ability to execute top-level and detailed simulations of power beaming links and implementations. Knowledge of Gaussian beam physics, atmospheric, and other attenuation factors across the electromagnetic spectrum. Knowledge of power conversion devices in microwave, millimeter-wave, and optical regimes. Real-time software programming (e.g., C/C++ or similar). TS/SCI clearance or higher. Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five-day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits. Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week. Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Washington or Washington DC is $85,900 - $164,600. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
